Collaborative Zine Project!

8 Feb

We had so much fun and success with our first zine project that we decided to do it again, this time just a little differently. It’s going to be a collaborative zine! Everyone designs one spread (with our theme), we’ll put the book together (including a fancy letterpress cover) and supply everyone with a copy! It’s for AIGA members only, so make sure you renew your membeship if you need to. Now is the perfect opportunity. From now until February 20th it’s only $50 to join or renew membership!

Zine spread details:

Theme: The End of the World
Size: two 8 x 8 inch pages (one 8 x 16 inch spread)
Medium: Open

We will print the zines in full color and full bleed, so have fun with this!
Please email us (  if you are planning on participating. You must send your file to by March 19th!

We hope everyone participates!

Mixtape Madness!!!!

21 Sep

Click on the picture for all the details!

We’ll be having an event a week from tomorrow called Mixtape Madness! I promise the event won’t be as cheesy as the name.

The focus of this event is the trade of music. Bring a mix YOU make accompanied by an album cover. It could be anything you want, make it any size on any type of paper. Bring your mix on a CD, flash drive, or any medium that you lets other students take your mix home. We’ll take pictures of the album covers and put them on the blog! It’ll be way sweet.

Another important aspect of this event is to bring stuff you did over the summer! Even if it’s not finished or printed, bring it so everybody can check it out. It’ll be interesting to check out what we’ve all been up to for the past months, and what better of a time than trading mixes?

The event is happening a week from tomorrow, that’s September 29th, at 7:30 PM in room 273 of the art building. There will probably be snacks and music and all your homies hangin out. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to email us at Check out the music an the leftovers we have and it will just be… THE CAT’S PAJAMAS.

(I promise it won’t be that cheesy.)

50 Books 50 Cover / Proceed & Be Bold

2 Sep

If you haven’t had a chance to check out the exhibition 50 Books 50 Covers yet, you definitely should! There’s some great design work shown. It’s in the J. Willard Marriot Library, 4th floor, just outside the Book Arts Studio. The reception for this exhibition is on September 8th (this Thursday) from 5:30-9:30 p.m.

Also after the reception there’s free screening of Proceed & Be Bold in the Gould Auditorium, J. Willard Marriot Library, 1st floor. This starts at 7:00 p.m.

From AIGA SLC website:

Proceed and Be Bold! documents the story of Amos Paul Kennedy Jr., who discovered letterpress printing on a visit to Colonial Williamsburg. Immediately hooked, he returned home to set up a small print shop in his basement. Kennedy’s provocative work, humor, and lifestyle question the premises of the contemporary art world, as well as widely held assumptions about what constitutes success.
